What Defines a Royalton Snare Drum?
View our Custom-Machined Hardware
Our process
Step One
Each drum begins with hand selected boards and blanks sourced from premium hardwoods such as Maple, Mahogany, Purpleheart, Wenge, Rosewood, Zebrawood, Ebony and countless others. Every piece is inspected for grain consistency, density, and character because these attributes directly shape the drum’s resonance, sustain, and tonal profile
Step Two
Every piece of wood is jointed flat, planed to the correct thickness, and cut into individual staves. We shape each stave angle with precision high‑tech equipment, guaranteeing every glue joint is within 1–2 thousandths of an inch. This accuracy is whats necessary to create a perfect stave drum shell.
Step Three
The staves are glued together and formed into a stave-shell blank, then turned on our precision equipment to achieve perfect roundness. Our signature bearing edges and snare beds are precisely milled, ensuring smooth head contact and balanced response across the entire drum.
Step Four
Before the finishing process begins, each shell is carefully sanded and sealed in preparation for its predetermined finish. The interior of each shell receives a special finish that helps the drum express the wood's natural properties. Our premium Italian finishes bring out the color, clarity, and character of every species.
Step 5
Once the shell is finished, we drill and fit each component using our custom fixtures ensuring precise alignment. Our lugs, tube adapters, port holes, and badges are all designed and machined in house, then hand assembled for a precise fit, clean lines, and consistent performance on every drum.
