This 6.5 x 14 Spalted Maple stave snare combines maple's balanced musical foundation with a more open eight-lug configuration. The 3/8-inch shell provides focus and projection, while the versatile depth keeps the drum responsive across a practical range of tunings. It is designed as an adaptable main snare for players who want a familiar, usable voice paired with wood that looks completely individual.
Natural spalting creates dark lines, streaks and color bands throughout the shell, all preserved beneath a satin finish. Custom Antique Brushed Black Nickel hardware gives the drum an aged, understated character, while Gaboon Ebony inlays repeat the darkest markings in the wood. Royalton's medium spear-point lugs are CNC-milled from aircraft-grade aluminum and individually fitted with the contrasting inlays. Handcrafted in the USA as a one-of-one Royalton instrument.

Sonic Profile
-
Attack
Rounded, clear, and articulate. The 3/8" Spalted Maple stave shell and 16-strand wires provide a quick, defined transient, while the roundover edge fattens the initial strike for a solid backbeat.
-
Sustain
Slightly open and controlled. The 8-lug configuration allows the shell to breathe and resonate more freely than a standard 10-lug design, while the roundover edges naturally tame high-frequency overtones for a smooth, musical decay.
-
Tone
Balanced, warm, and highly versatile. It delivers a familiar, full-bodied musical foundation that sits perfectly in almost any mix.
